Trees and shrubs are the bones of your landscaping. Some, like river birch, arborvitae, dogwood, maples and rhododendron are found everywhere, and for good reason.
They’re hardy, attractive and do their job well. But there are others that might not be quite as well known that are worth a look: the lovely Thundercloud Plum with its almost purple bark, the wonderful native evergreen shrub Leucothoe that takes full sun to shade and isn’t touched by deer, the yellow leaf redbud Rising Sun, and the magnificent Japanese Umbrella Pine, which isn’t a pine at all .
